"Your life is as colourful as you dare to paint it."
The world is this colourful because we have the opportunity to cultivate and practice celebrations from different cultures.
Hindus will celebrate Guru Purnima, a festival for the Guru on July 5th, 2020. A Guru is the one who removes darkness: "Gu" means darkness, "Ru" is the remover. For all school children it is their teachers and for all kindergarten children it is their caretakers who embody their Guru, because they learn from them.
This festival was celebrated by many children at different places during the last week. The children lovingly made cards for their favorite teachers and day care workers. The smiling faces in the pictures above speak for themselves.
We have collected a few statements from the teachers below. Reading through them makes the celebration very much worthwhile.
"I personally found it very interesting to get to know this cultural speciality and I would like to see us celebrate something like this between students and teachers in this country, not only to increase the acceptance of the teaching profession and appreciation, but also to strengthen the relationship between students and their teachers. "- Mr. Hansen
"Guru Vandana shows us two essential aspects of human interaction: openness and appreciation. Thank you for the insight into a wonderful tradition" - Mrs. H.
"I actually find it interesting that there is such a day, and shows how much education is valued in India" - Mrs. Löbner
"I am happy to be part of the beautiful festival of Guru Vandana in this way." - Frau Kleist
"Because of Corona, we could not celebrate the festival together. But it was a great opportunity to get an insight into their appreciative culture" - Ms. Hamburger
"It gives us great pleasure to support the children in their different faiths. I was very happy about the gift from (child)." - Mrs Sonne
"We were very happy that (child) let us participate in their festival and culture. She is a great student and we are happy that we can teach her" - Frau Aßmann and Frau Luzar
For me this Guru Vandana was a very beautiful experience and I was happy to share it with (child)- Frau Grover, Dance school Kaalamitra
